KYANNA Black Nurses Scholarship

Scholarship Criteria/Application

2024

KYANNA Black Nurses Association offers nursing scholarships to students enrolled in the

nursing major. Applicants must meet the following criteria:

1. Attend a college/university in Jefferson County, Frankfort, Elizabethtown in KY, or Floyd

and Clark counties in southern Indiana.

2. Enrolled in a pre-licensure registered nurse (ASN or BSN) or licensed practical nurse

program, LPN-RN program, RN-BSN program, or a graduate nursing program.

3. Actively enrolled in the nursing major and taking classroom/clinical classes taught by

nursing faculty.

4. Cumulative GPA of 2.6 or higher with one or more full semesters remaining in the

program.

5. Submit an application packet no later than June 1, 2024. 


The packet must include:

a. Two letters of recommendation from two of the following - nursing faculty,

your academic advisor or a KYANNA member supporting your character and

academic potential.

b. A transcript of the most recent semester from your college or university

(official or unofficial).

c. Identify activities you are currently involved in such as KYANNA,

community service, school of nursing organizations, etc. Membership and

participation in KYANNA are recommended since members receive first

consideration.

d. A short essay (250 words or less) on why you have selected nursing as your

career choice.

6. Scholarship recipients are required to attend a KYANNA meeting during Fall

2024 to share how the scholarship has been a benefit to their education.

Banquet in August 2024.

Outstanding Nurse Awards

 

KYANNA would like to pay tribute to outstanding African American and minority nurses who have demonstrated excellence and achievements in the areas of nursing leadership, research, community involvement/advocacy, long-term care, clinical practice, and nursing education.  Please take a moment to identify and nominate potential recipients for these awards below. Awards are given to recipients during the Annual Scholarship Gala.

Criteria:

·          LPN, RN, or APRN with active licensure

·         Minimum of 3 years of experience in nursing

·         Exhibits excellence and achievement in his/ her nursing area

Outstanding Nurse Awards


                    Awardee should be present at our Annual Leadership and Scholarship Event to receive the award.
